Nastia: From A Tiny Village To The Big Stage

Ahead of The Ark, we caught up with our Ukrainian Burn Residency mentor to discuss her rise to the top. The Propaganda label boss has faced numerous hurdles along the way yet persevered to reach the level she is at today. She touched upon a few of these challenges and also the places she went for inspiration in times of need.

Nastia joins her fellow mentors – Loco Dice and Luciano – on board the Ark this September. We cannot wait to see them and our residents lighting up the BURN stage.

“I grew up in a poor village in Ukraine with no culture, where the most you could do was go to school and watch music TV channels. But I was a dancer from the day I was born. Music was the only thing that could make me feel amazing. My older sisters would bring home some cassettes with electronic music on, and I would dance to it in front of the mirror.”

“My favourite club right now is Closer in Kiev. Honestly, it’s the best place a DJ can play. Super cool and intimate events with an absolutely amazing and educated crowd. That club saved my life after Arma17 in Moscow got closed.”

“The hardest thing about becoming a DJ is earning respect. After that it is getting shows. When I started out, I was recording my mixes on CDs and sending them by post to the clubs in Ukraine. Out of all the clubs I sent to, only one replied: a club in Kharkov. I was happy. I went there to play and that’s how it all started for me.”
